Mets prospect Émilien Pitre perfecting bat-to-ball blueprint during breakout season

In some ways, Émilien Pitre is a throwback to a bygone era.

In an age filled with launch angles, exit velocities and an emphasis on power, the Mets’ No. 11 prospect has built his game around one of the most transferable skills in baseball: making contact.

That ability has translated to a career-best season for Pitre, who has ascended from High-A all the way to Triple-A this season. That route included a move from Tampa Bay to New York along with two other prospects in exchange for pitcher Freddy Peralta at the Trade Deadline. Through it all, the middle infielder kept on hitting, and as a result, finds himself on the cusp of the Majors.

Pitre was already in the midst of a strong campaign prior to joining the Mets, slashing .308/.438/.447 in 88 games between High-A Bowling Green and Double-A Montgomery. The 23-year-old tallied 28 extra-base hits, 46 RBIs and 32 stolen bases with an eye-popping 70/40 BB/K ratio.

Upon moving to Double-A Binghamton, Pitre kicked off his tenure by going 15-for-40 (.375) with only four strikeouts in his first 10 games, prompting the organization to reward him with a promotion to Triple-A Syracuse on Aug. 18.
